What to Wear for Senior Pictures in Denver (Without Looking Like Everyone Else)

"What should I wear?" It's the question I get before almost every senior session — and it's a great one. Here's how to choose outfits for your Denver senior portraits that actually feel like you, whether your style is casual, bold, or somewhere in between.

Let me tell you the question I get more than almost any other before a session.

It's not "where will we shoot?" or "how long does it take?" It's this:

"What should I wear?"

And honestly? I love that question. Because it tells me the senior actually cares — they want it to be good, they just don't know where to start.

So let's talk about it. Because your Denver senior portraits should look like you — not like you scrolled Pinterest for an hour and showed up in someone else's aesthetic.

Start With What Already Makes You Feel Like Yourself

Here's the thing about senior pictures that nobody tells you: this is not school picture day. There is no background color to choose from, no forced smile into a lens, no outfit your mom picked out the night before (sorry, moms — I love you).

Your session should feel like you showed up as yourself and someone happened to capture it beautifully.

So when I ask seniors to think about their outfits, I always start here: What do you wear when you want to feel confident? Not dressed up for someone else. Not trying to look a certain way. Just... genuinely yourself.

That's your starting point.

Guys — if you feel most like yourself in a clean pair of jeans and a fitted tee or a casual button-down, that's a great starting place. If you have a jacket or a hoodie you always reach for, bring it.

Girls — if you live in jeans and a good jacket, bring that. If you love a flowy dress and feel most like yourself in it, bring that.

And for everyone — if your thing is something bold and a little unexpected? Yes, please, bring that.

When you feel like yourself in your clothes, it comes through the camera. Every single time. I promise you.

Bring 2–3 Outfits for Variety (Here's a Simple Formula)

Most seniors I work with bring two or three looks to their session. It keeps things relaxed — we're not doing a runway show — but it gives us room to tell a little more of your story.

Here's a combination I love:

  • One casual, comfortable look — the everyday you

  • One slightly elevated outfit — something with a little more intention behind it

  • One that's bold or expressive — the outfit that makes you feel like that version of yourself

Think of it like three chapters of the same book. Same person, different sides of them.

For guys this might look like: a favorite casual tee, a clean button-down or bomber jacket, and something that shows a little personality — maybe a color you love or a style that feels like yours.

For girls this might look like: a casual everyday outfit, a dress or elevated set, and that one piece that makes you feel like you could take on the world.

Colors That Work Beautifully in Colorado

I am a little bit obsessed with the light here in Denver. The golden hour is golden, the mountains do things in the background that no filter can replicate, and the landscape naturally has this warm, earthy richness to it.

Colors that tend to photograph beautifully against Colorado's scenery:

  • Soft neutrals and creams

  • Earth tones — rust, olive, camel, warm browns

  • Classic denim (always yes — on everyone)

  • Dusty pinks, sage, warm terracotta

And honestly? A pop of bold color is always welcome. A deep cobalt, a bright red, a rich emerald — when it feels like you, it works. Some of my favorite images have been the ones where a senior showed up in something unexpected and completely owned it. Don't be afraid to bring that one outfit that makes you feel like a little bit of a statement.

What I'd steer away from: super busy patterns, large graphics, or anything with logos across the front. Not because they're wrong, just because they tend to compete with you — and you are always the main character here.

You Don't Have to Figure This Out Alone

Here's something I want every senior (and every parent reading this) to know: when you book with Jennie Bennett Photography, the styling conversation is part of the process.

Before your session, we actually sit down and talk through it — outfits, locations, the vibe you're going for, all of it. So you're not the night before your shoot, standing in your closet, wondering if you made the right call.

You show up knowing what you're wearing, why it works, and feeling ready.

That's the boutique experience. No guessing. No stress. Just showing up and getting to be yourself while I do what I do.

Here's What I Really Want You to Hear

Senior year is a lot. It's exciting and heavy and fast and full of feelings that are hard to even name. Your photos should hold all of that — not hide it.

The best Denver senior portraits aren't the ones with the trendiest outfits or the most "Pinterest-worthy" poses. They're the ones where you look at them ten years from now and say, " That was me. That's exactly who I was.”

That's what we're making together.

Something Big Is Happening at Jennie Bennett Photography

It’s finally here — and honestly, I’ve been dreaming about this since the very beginning. Jennie Bennett Photography is launching its very first Senior Rep Team for the Class of 2027, and you could be one of the founding members. As a boutique Denver Senior Photographer, I’ve always believed that senior year deserves more than a single session squeezed between AP exams and college tours. It deserves a whole experience — one that reflects who you actually are, celebrates the season you’re in, and leaves you with imagery that your family will treasure for decades. This is that experience.

The JBP Rep Team isn’t a modeling contract or a popularity contest. It’s a community. A curated collective of creative, kind, and genuinely confident Class of 2027 girls from across the Denver Metro area who want something more substantive from their senior year than a single picture day. No prior modeling experience is required — just a good attitude, a love for authentic imagery, and a willingness to be part of something that’s never been done before under this brand. If that sounds like you, keep reading.

This Is More Than a Photoshoot — It’s a Year-Long Experience

Here’s what most people don’t realize about joining a senior rep team with a boutique Denver Senior Photographer: the sessions are just the beginning. What you’re really signing up for is a year of connection, creativity, and genuine fun — the kind that produces imagery you’ll actually want to frame rather than quietly untag. Rep team members will shoot multiple times throughout the year, in a variety of styled concepts and seasonal settings, so your gallery reflects the full, multidimensional person you are right now. Think golden-hour solo sessions, themed group minis, and styled creative shoots that don’t look like anyone else’s feed.

JBP Rep Team members will receive:

•       Multiple photo shoots throughout the year — both solo and group sessions

•       Themed minis and creatively styled content that goes beyond the expected

•       Referral rewards and exclusive team-only perks and surprises

•       A custom keepsake album — a tangible, heirloom piece of your senior year

•       New friendships and memories that actually last beyond the feed

•       All your digital images for posting, sharing, and keeping forever

That last one matters more than people expect. As a photographer who is deeply committed to printed, heirloom-quality artwork, I also believe that your digital images should be fully yours — shared freely, posted proudly, and saved somewhere that isn’t just a phone camera roll waiting to be accidentally deleted. Rep team members will leave every session with both: the physical and the digital, the legacy and the likes.

Why Join the Waitlist? (Here’s the Honest Answer)

Spots on the JBP Rep Team are intentionally limited. This isn’t a volume program — it’s a boutique experience, which means every member receives real attention, real investment, and a real relationship with their photographer throughout the year. Because of that, applications will only go out to those on the waitlist first, before anything is announced publicly. Joining the waitlist is free, it’s simple, and it puts you at the front of a very short line. As a Denver Senior Photographer who runs a deliberately small-scale, quality-over-quantity business, I only have room for a select number of founding members — and I want those spots filled by the right girls.

When you join the waitlist, you’ll receive:

•       First access to apply — before the application opens to the public

•       Priority placement for limited spots on the founding team

•       Special surprises and exclusive bonuses reserved only for waitlist members

•       Full program details, perks, and investment information before anyone else sees them

There’s something quietly powerful about being first. About raising your hand before the room fills up, before the excitement becomes noise. The girls who join the waitlist today are the ones who’ll look back on senior year and remember being part of something from the very beginning — a founding story that belongs to them.

Who Is the JBP Rep Team For?

The JBP Senior Rep Team was designed with a very specific person in mind — and if you’ve read this far, there’s a good chance that person is you. This program is for current juniors in the Class of 2027 living in Denver and the surrounding metro area, including Castle Rock, Parker, Highlands Ranch, Cherry Creek, Lakewood, and beyond. It’s for the girl who’s involved — in sports, in the arts, in school leadership, in her community — and who understands that her senior year is a season worth commemorating with more than a basic session against a generic backdrop. It’s for the girl who leads with kindness and shows up for the people around her.

She might be a cheerleader, a student council president, a varsity athlete, or simply someone who values authentic connection and has always wanted imagery that actually looks like her. She doesn’t need to have a massive following or a perfectly curated aesthetic — she just needs to be genuinely herself. Because that’s the whole philosophy behind this Denver Senior Photographer’s approach: real confidence, real personality, real moments. No stiff poses. No performative prettiness. Just you, seen fully and photographed with intention.

Let’s Make Senior Year Legendary

This is the first-ever JBP Rep Team — and that means the founding members will hold a special place in this brand’s story forever. There’s something irreplaceable about being an original. About being the girl who said yes before it was a sure thing, who helped shape what this community becomes. Senior year is already fleeting — it moves with a speed that catches even the most present families off guard. The role of a great Denver Senior Photographer isn’t just to document that speed, but to slow it down long enough to really feel it, frame it, and hold it.

The JBP Rep Team is how we do that together. Multiple sessions, real friendships, printed keepsakes, and a senior year that doesn’t just pass by — it gets celebrated. Every. Single. Chapter. If you’re a Class of 2027 junior in the Denver Metro area and something about this is pulling at you, don’t wait for the feeling to fade. This is your season. And it is absolutely worth showing up for.
