Choosing where we shoot takes more than picking a pretty spot off Pinterest. It's light, timing, how a place photographs through the seasons, and which spots let you actually relax instead of feeling watched.
Below are the kinds of places I love to shoot around Castle Rock, Denver and the Colorado mountains.
They're only a starting point. I'll guide you to the place that's going to feel the most like you.
Urban
Brick, glass, painted walls and the glow of the city at golden hour. Urban sessions are for the senior who wants something bold, styled and a little editorial. We use stairways, alleys, storefronts and the light bouncing between buildings, so you get a lot of variety in one session.
Lakes & Rivers
Moving water, soft reflections, and evening light that glows on the surface. Wade into a river in your boots, walk the shoreline at sunset, or sit on a rock and just breathe. These sessions feel easy and unposed, and they're some of my favorites for seniors who love being outside.
Flower Gardens & Fields
Stone stairs, winding garden paths, and color that changes with the season.
Spring brings flowering trees and lilacs, and summer brings full gardens and wildflowers. Blooms only last a few weeks, so I watch them closely and plan your date around when they're at their best.
Mountains, Foothills & Golden Grasslands
Pines, open meadows, and tall grass that's green in spring and turns gold in late summer and fall. Higher up, wildflowers peak in June and July and the aspens turn in late September. This is the classic Colorado senior session, the kind of photo your family frames and hangs in the living room.

Senior Photo Location FAQs
Where do you take senior photos?
A: I shoot around Castle Rock, Douglas County and Denver Metro, and up into the Colorado foothills and mountains. My favorite spots fall into four styles: urban, lakes and rivers, flower gardens and fields, and mountains, foothills and golden grasslands.
Can I choose my own location?
A: Yes. If there's a place that means something to you, like your backyard, a favorite trail or your school, we can make it work. If you're not sure, I'll suggest a spot that fits your style and the season.
What's the best season for each location?
A: Spring is best for flowering trees and green grass. Mountain wildflowers peak in June and July. Late summer and fall bring golden grasslands, and the aspens turn in late September. City sessions work almost any time of year.
Do you travel outside Castle Rock and Denver?
A: Yes. I often shoot in Evergreen, Bailey and Breckenridge. The Destination Experience takes us farther into the Colorado mountains. When you inquire, I'll send my guide with each Experience.
